Save the Planet! (one bag at a time…)

Whenever Colleen and I go to the beach, we pick up trash, which is a constant. One item we often find are those used freezer bags, filled with sand and seawater, destined to be part of the Pacific Plastic Disaster, but for our intervention.

At the same time, however, I love to sous vide food, as it’s easy to get perfectly cooked food consistently. Thank you, Chef Bruno Goussalt, for this amazing invention!

Unfortunately, it requires a lot and a lot of bags like the one above…

Fortunately, there’s a simple solution! Wash those bags!!!

It’s easy.  Step 1:  Wash the bag with biodegradable soap.  Step 2:  Let the bag soak (I typically do many at a time for efficiency); Step 3:  Rinse the bag.  Step 4:  Turn the bag inside out and let it dry; Step 5:  Take a moment to recognize your contribution to a better planet.

Sure, after a while, they are not as clean as a brand new bag, but think of them as being broken in and well loved.  And, chances are, they will not end up on the beach.  So please try this! You’ll be glad you did.  ~Jon
